The Wing and I




As posted yesterday, I received an email from the one and only, Wing.

I was so excited, that I decided to email her back the following:

Wing

This has been a rough week for me.

Things are a little annoying at work. I haven't been sleeping well. Overall, I've just been feeling down.

I posted yesterday with a song by my new fav, Wing. A little Christmas ditty that made me smile. When I was at her site, I filled out a quick survey asking how much I might pay to see Wing in concert (btw, there is no price too high) and what my zip code was etc.

Imagine my surprise and delight tonight when I got this little email:

Of course, the love and support of my good friends has helped the most this week.

It Was Twenty Years Ago Today









Twenty years ago today, my brother in law called to tell me my sister had the baby.
"Well...is a girl or a boy?", I asked.
"It's a boy.", he replied.

With three nephews and no nieces, I have to admit, I was hoping for a girl.
It's amazing how quickly you forget about such things when you look into the eyes of a newborn.
He was perfect.
And, I wouldn't trade him for the world.

Women and the 2008 Election

Women are expected to play a significant role in the 2008 election.

Some interesting data:

-Studies indicate that women outnumber and outvote men and the candidates are already creating campaigns aimed at women voters. In 2004, nearly nine million more women than men voted in the election.

-For the first time in U.S. history, the number of unmarried, separated, divorced or widowed women now equals the number of married women in the country. This represents about 26% of the eligible voting population.

-Married women have a tendency to vote Republican. Unmarried women traditionally vote for a Democrat.

-Unmarried women, unfortunately, are less likely to register and vote.

-In 2004, 20 million unmarried women did not bother to register and vote.

That needs to change.
We need to encourage women to get out to vote in 2008.
I am always amazed when people tell me they don't vote. It would never occur to me NOT to vote. When I was a kid, I always went with my Mom when she went to the polls.
Voting isn't a choice. It's an obligation.

Women fought for our right to vote from the first meeting of the women's rights convention in Seneca Falls, NY in 1848 until the 19th Amendment was adopted in 1920.
That's long time to fight for something that we take for granted today.

We can take this country back, if set our minds to it.

Double Dipping



So this doctor puts hundreds of people at risk for all kinds of diseases like HIV and Hepatitis C and is still practicing medicine??
What kind of moron does this sort of thing in this day and age? And, is still allowed to maintain a medical license?
I thought it was bad a few years ago when my nephew was in a science class and they were typing their blood. The teacher had the students sharing a small lancet to cut themselves to draw the blood. Luckily, Jared was smarter than that.

"Do You Remember His Name?"

I went with Briana and Dylan last week to The Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach.
We had a great day watching all the sea creatures.
The sea lions were especially fun to watch.
One of the docents told Briana that the sea lions are attracted to quarters if you hold one up to the window. They will come up to investigate like this one did.


After a few minutes of sea lion watching, another docent came up to us.
She did not approve of the quarter technique.





For a brief moment, I thought the quarter incident might get us into some trouble.
But, then these three came in to look at the sea lions.



I figure if they don't throw you out for being stoned or stupid or both...they certainly won't throw you out because you held a coin up to the window.

Therapist: "I'd like you to tell me what you would do in this situation. What would you do if you had a flat tire?"

Elderly Female Patient: "I'd call 911."

Therapist: "Well, when do we usually call 911?"

Patient: "When you have an emergency."

Therapist: "That's right. Do you think a flat tire falls into the category of 'emergency'?"

Patient: "Then I'd call...you know. What are they called?

Thoughtful Pause

Patient: "Oh!!!! I know!!! I'd call the AARP! They have to help old people. Don't they?"

My Favorite Things

This is a list of my favorite things, in no particular order (after Godfrey, that is).


This is Godfrey. But, you knew that. While technically not a "thing", he is still my favorite.





This is my newest favorite. It is Mucinex DM.
I went to Santa Barbara this past weekend and ended up catching a cold. While I am feeling much better, I have been coughing for the last three days. I just haven't been able to shake it. I bought this stuff this afternoon. I took it at 6:00 and I haven't had a coughing fit since. It is kinda pricey, but worth every cent.

This is the Buf Puf. It is essentially an exfoliate. I have been using these since I was in college. It is the greatest thing for oily skin. I recently turned 47 years old, but people say I look 25.
OK...nobody says that.
But, I still like the Buf Puf.



I know you're thinking, "What the hell? Isn't that just a bottle of Dr. Pepper?"
Yes it is. But, it's in a glass bottle and it's made with cane sugar. No corn syrup here. It tastes like the Dr. Pepper you had when you were a kid.
Except if you are under 35 and then you aren't old enough to remember what Dr. Pepper is supposed to taste like.
To me, soda just tastes better from a glass bottle. Here in the L.A., there is a small store you can go to to buy all kinds of soda in glass bottles. You can't find these sodas in a Von's or Ralph's.

I love Bath and Body Works. Anything at Bath and Body Works.
This my favorite at the moment. Midnight Pomegranate.
It's like having a martini in the shower. I know that doesn't make sense, but it is.






This is my Mr. Coffee Iced tea maker. My grandma was from the South. I grew up drinking iced tea. Now, I can have it, without a hassle in less than 5 minutes. If you like iced tea, this is for you.




Briana sold me on this little item.
It is a Swivel Sweeper. It is so easy to use on tile and hard wood floors. It's cordless. It's easy to clean. It's lightweight. It small enough to fit easily in the closet. It picks up absolutely everything.
What's not to love?




Speaking of things the Swivel Sweeper picks up...this is a bag of cat litter. It is made from recycled newspaper. It is the best litter I have ever found and better for the environment.




This is Orbit "Mojito Mint" gum. I often carry this and another brand of gum in my pockets at work. I hand out the other brand to people who bum gum off me. I only give the Mojito gum if I really, really like you.
It's like having a cocktail while your working. Perfect.


This is the item that has literally changed by life.
It is Downey Wrinkle Releaser. You spray this stuff on your clothing, smooth them out and ...Voila! No more wrinkles! No more ironing! I have not used an iron since I started using it.
