Turning 40

Today was Fred's 40th birthday.
Elsa bought him a cake with the grim reaper and a couple of burial plots.
Happy Birthday, Fred. Hope the hangover is not so bad tomorrow!!

Fellows

I was driving to Bakersfield this morning to spend the day with my family.
I took a little detour, due west, to Fellows. This is where I spent half of my childhood. You know, before my parents got divorced. Before we moved to the big city of Bakersfield.
This is a picture of the street leading into town. I assure you, that is a town up ahead.

This is what Fellows was all about back in the day.
Oil.
My Dad worked for Standard Oil at the time we lived there.
The Oil Companies owned the land. People bought the houses. But, the land belonged to the Oil Company.

These are a few pictures of the park in Fellows. I spent many hot summer days going down that elephant slide.

This is a corner in town.
Every so often, I have a re-occuring dream that takes place at this corner.

This is the street that leads up to where our house used to be.

This is where the driveway to our house once was.

A view looking down the hill.

There were ditches behind the houses. The houses where kind of ramshackled to begin with. Not much in the way of landscaping since it was basically desert. Though, I have to say, my Mom did give it a good go with trying to grow grass.
As you can see, there isn't much here anymore. The government decided it was cheaper to get oil from the middle east. The town has just been dying a slow death since the late 1960's.

This is the backlot that belonged to our neighbor. The lot with a back house.
It's just an empty piece of land.
Dirt. Rocks, Sticks.
The bones of our old dog, Rags.
It's nothing.
So, why does it haunt me?
Why can't I let it go?

Just like the town, I feel like I've been dying a slow death.

I sat in this spot today.
Hoping for closure.
Praying that God would erase those memories.
Or at least give me a way to understand what happened here.

Doddering, Incoherent or Lying???

I know it's over 5 minutes. But, if you are even remotely thinking of voting for McCain, please watch it.

Overheard At The Nurse's Station

OT #1: "Hey, don't use that deck of cards in the activity room today."

OT#2: "Why not?"

OT#1: "It doesn't have any elevens in it."

OT#2: "You mean Jacks?"

OT#1: " No. Elevens."

OT#2: Bursting into laughter. "Card decks don't have any 'elevens'."

Mr. Experience

John McCain has been touting his "experience" in foreign policy.

The Senator never misses a chance to claim he is the only candidate who will be able to handle the complex issues of the Iraq War.

Read this article to see that McCain doesn't really know everything he says he does.

Guilty By Association

I thought this was a very insightful interview. I hope this puts to rest any ideas that Obama is something other than a follower of Jesus. Clearly, he denounces the political ideas of Rev. Wright.

Who should we believe? The man himself or the haters over at Fox news?

This is one of the men George W Bush relies upon for spiritual guidance.
Hmmmmm. I'll stick with Obama's judgement.

Kansas Woman Attached To A Toilet

I heard about this woman while having dinner tonight with my friends Lisa and Jackie.
Make sure you watch the video along with reading the article.
They say she might be in a wheelchair for the rest of her life.

I'm thinking she might prefer a bedside commode.

A Neuroanatomist and Her Stroke

I know this is long, but I found it to be very interesting.
I think GWB could use a little more time in the consciousness of his right hemisphere.

This ticket is a nightmare for some, but a dream to me.

Babysitting

I got to spend some time with my favorite toddler the other night. He was not too thrilled when I woke him up from his nap. He doesn't seem too sure about how this evening will turn out.

After dinner, we spent some time with the Mr. Potatohead, Mr. Carrothead and Mr. Cornhead. Notice how he lines them all up.

And, after mommy and daddy came home, he showed off his Cars towel.

All of this leaves the question: How annoying am I to be referring to myself in the third person throughout these videos?
