Godfrey Picture

One of several hundred pictures I've taken of Godfrey with the new camera.
I think he is starting to actually pose for me.

Lazy Sunday

I got a new camera yesterday.
I was eager to try it out on something other than Godfrey.

So, Lisa and I went to the Huntington Gardens this afternoon.

This is the newly opened Chinese Garden.

Going across the bridge.

A picture of the tile work.

The garden features a beautiful lake.

Filled with Koi.

After stopping to see the "This Side of Paradise" photography exhibit(which included a couple of Hurrell photographs),
we made our way through this colorful garden.

Then on to see and smell the roses.
Lisa was a docent here in the rose garden.

Under a tree.

We went into the newly renovated Art gallery.

Lisa is convinced she looks a lot like this woman in this painting.

I see the resemblance.

Choking On Hospital Food

Last week, we had a bit of a scare at lunch.
I was in the nurse's lounge with Mendy, Donna and Dee.

Mendy, shown here re-creating the event, began to choke on her salad.
I asked "Are you choking?"
She nodded yes and Donna and I jumped up to help.
As I got behind her, I wrapped my arms around her and gave her an abdominal thrust.
Truth be told, she had already managed to dislodge whatever was in her airway by herself.
As we started to calm down, we realized that Dee was still in the recliner.
Still munching on her pear as if nothing unusual was happening around her.

"I was going to help."
"How?", we asked. "When you finished your pear?"
"I was going to call a code," she said.
"Do you know what number to call?"
"Yeah. It's #6."
"No. It's 6#."

"Whatever."

This is Dee, practicing what she should have done in the first place.
Springing into action.

Here is a youtube video that shows you what to do if you are ever alone and choking on food.
Or, what to do if you find yourself eating alone with Dee in the nurse's lounge.

Blue On One Side. White On The Other.

Every 4 weeks for 3 or 4 days? 3 or 4 days?

And why doesn't Susie tell Jill about the cramps? The bloating? The irritability?

At the very least, I thought Dad would have mentioned it.

Why did I post this? Because it's my blog and I can.

That's why.

Overheard in the Therapy Room

Patient: "I don't know why I'm having such a hard time remembering things. I've always had a photogenic memory."

Me too. But, lately it's a little camera shy.

Wing Makes Calls!

It's been a rough week.
Anyone who knows me, knows when things get bad, I can do only one thing.
Listen to Wing.
Makes me smile every time.

And, as much as this video makes me smile, I found something else.
THIS!!
Maybe we could have her call the rehab unit and put her on speaker phone. That's worth $18!! Heck...it's worth way more than that.
Tell me you're not getting giddy just thinking about it!

Satire

They call this cover of the New York Post, satire.

"The Politics of Fear", it's called.

It's a drawing of Obama and his wife, Michelle.

He's in Muslim garb.

She looks an awful lot like the revolutionary, Angela Davis.

And, clearly it is satire.

Those of us who know Obama is a Christian, know it's
satire.

Those of us who know Michelle Obama is not a secret
revolutionary waiting to shoot up "whitey", know it's satire.

But, there are a lot of backward, mouth breathing Red State voters who won't see the satire.
They won't "get" the message.

No, they'll sit back in their ratty lazy boys, drinking a Bud, smoking a Marlboro and drooling over Bill O'Reilly's spin of the cover and mutter, "I told you so!"

The Republicans are counting on that.

Can we expect a cover next month of McCain?

Perhaps a drawing of him laying in a hospital bed looking up at Cindy (who's drinking a Bud and popping a few pills), with IVs in his arm, a huge tumor on the side of his face, holding a grenade and wearing a "Depends"?

Wait...that wouldn't be satire.

The Real Reasons

Taking a break from the posts with beautiful children. After all, we have to make this world a better place for them by exposing the ugliness of the current administration.

From The Public Record:

"Two years before the invasion of Iraq, oil executives and foreign policy advisers told the Bush administration that the United States would remain “a prisoner of its energy dilemma” as long as Saddam Hussein was in power.

That April 2001 report, “Strategic Policy Challenges for the 21st Century,” was prepared by the James A. Baker Institute for Public Policy and the U.S. Council on Foreign Relations at the request of Vice President Dick Cheney.

In retrospect, it appears that the report helped focus administration thinking on why it made geopolitical sense to oust Hussein, whose country sat on the world’s second largest oil reserves.“Iraq remains a de-stabilizing influence to the flow of oil to international markets from the Middle East,” the report said.“Saddam Hussein has also demonstrated a willingness to threaten to use the oil weapon and to use his own export program to manipulate oil markets.

Therefore the U.S. should conduct an immediate policy review toward Iraq including military, energy, economic and political/diplomatic assessments.”

I, like so many Americans believed the Administration's lies about spreading freedom around the world and the need to liberate the Iraqi people.

I believed they would find weapons of mass destruction there.

I believed Colin Powell and Condi Rice.

I was duped.

Unfortunately, there are too many citizens that continue to believe lies even when the truth is staring them in the face.

The president, our president, lied to us and started a war that has killed thousands of our young men and women. Not to mention innocent Iraqi men, women and children.

And, for what.

OIL. Not for some lofty ideal of democracy and freedom.

He did it for oil. For profits.

It makes me sick to my stomach.

July 4th at Rob and Lee Ann's

Just a few pictures from the July 4th party at Rob and Lee Ann's.

Here's Gian, looking like his cute little self.

And Zeke, looking like his cute little self.

Getting set for the "locals" fireworks displays.

Just a little video of the evening. The illegal fireworks in Glassell Park were better than some of the professional ones. Not to mention a lot cheaper for us!

But...there was a price to pay for this fireworks extravaganza. The mosquitoes had quite a buffet last night. They bit everyone except Lee Ann, who is apparently too bitter for the little pests.
How many bites can you count on my arm and hand?
