The Lady of the Now Sound

I was wondering if someone like the "iminitable Mama Cass" would ever make it on American Idol today.
Probably not.
The music business seems to want to sell an image.
That's too bad. Because in the 60's and 70's people could sing. And, not everyone sounded the same.
When you heard Janis on the radio, you knew it was Janis.
When you heard Joni on the radio, you knew it was Joni.
When you heard Marvin on the radio, you knew it was Marvin.
They had voices.

To me, all the Britneys and Christinas all sound the same.

Which is probably why I don't like much pop music today.

Mama Cass, Karen Carpenter... sounds of the '60's and 70's, we were blessed to listen to them and sing along with them. American Idol is looking for the next Brittney Spears, and we know how well that has turned out! I do, however like Ruben Studdard, he won American Idol one year, I think! ::smile:::

As a speech therapist, I was working with a kiddo on his social skills. He always assumed that everyone liked the same televison shows that he did. His two favorite shows were American Idol and Deal or No Deal. We spent tons of time getting him to ask all the people in his life what their favorite television shows were and then only talking about American Idol with THOSE people who liked it as a show. Fun stuff, this speech therapy.
